Workplace violence is an issue in all businesses and services where staff may face emotionally charged situations. Most roles in security are at high risk of conflict and physical assault.
The security licensing body, the SIA, has recognised the particular problems faced by door supervisors and after August 2010 new door supervisors will have to complete a module in escorting and disengagement to gain an SIA licence.
Physical Intervention Skills
The course is intended to help in reducing the risk to you and others. It will explore strategies and skills for reducing conflict. The physical interventions will be taught for situations where non-physical strategies have failed or are likely to fail. They will be considered within the requirements of your role, and application will be based on the context of where necessary and appropriate, and by the least intrusive means. Ethical, legal and medical issues will be considered.
Physical intervention course content
Maybo’s physical intervention skills are based on natural movements that do not rely on strength or aggression. These non-violent skills have earned considerable credibility across different sectors.
This module based training varies from disengagement tactics to more advanced rescue techniques, escorting methods through to holding skills. Throughout the course we will examine:

The law in relation to ‘reasonable force’ and ‘self defence’
The value of assessing a situation before intervening
Using physical intervention as a last resort
Possible medical implications
The potential legal implications of the techniques
